In its short life span, Goner Fest has quickly increased the size of its blip on the radar of mainstream independent music. Paste said it “tends to fill three days with so much overdriven, yelp-tastic rock 'n' roll that, for the slightest moment, the city of Memphis becomes one big parents' garage.” Blurt called Goner Fest “a rock n roll mainline that is the perfect antidote for all those other festivals.” GONERFEST 8 OFFICIAL SCHEDULE Thursday, September 22 - Opening Ceremonies - 5:30 pm - @ Goner Records Jack Oblivian (Memphis, TN) Limes (Memphis, TN) Thursday Night - @ Hi Tone Ty Segall (SF, CA) OBN IIIs (Austin, TX) Royal Headache (Sydney, Australia) Mikal Cronin (SF, CA) Hans Condor (Nashville, TN) Sex Cult (Memphis, TN) MC NoBunny DJ Useless Eater & DJ Rick Friday, September 23 - Afternoon Rock – 2 pm - @ Buccaneer Straight Arrows (Sydney, Australia) Ryan Rousseau & His Desert Children (Desert, AZ) Coasting (Memphis, TN / Brooklyn, NY) Sharp Balloons (Memphis, TN) Cyclops (???) Since All Memphis Music has listeners world wide, the winning entry can come from any city in the world. A random drawing will be held at midnight Memphis time (CST) , March 18th and you could win a copy of the new 2 classic cd's, 'Elvis Is Back', with new liner notes, rare photos and more!

One entry per day, per person, starting Thursday March 10th and ending Saturday March 18th. Enter every day to increase your chances.
The story of 'Elvis is Back'-
The first album by Presley after his military discharge from the Army, the first day of its sessions were attended by The Colonel , his assistant Tom Dishin and representatives from RCA in a show of interest regarding whether or not Elvis still "had it" after two years in uniform. His long-serving guitarist ,Scotty Moore, pianist Floyd Cramer, and drummer D.J. Fontana had returned, along with his back-up vocal quartet , The Jordanaires, but the other musicians had only played on one previous session with Elvis.
The 'Elvis is Back' album is argued by many that it is the best album Elvis recorded. New Nashville musicians, improved recording three-track technology, and the first CD since some said,
"Has Elvis lost it"? Five # 1 singles would dispel any notions. Here's your chance to win a copy!

All Memphis Music ~ Jared Booty ~The Memphis Sound ~ Presented by The Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau
This weekend All Memphis Music is pleased to present a specialty show highlighting , Jared Booty and his new CD.
Jared Booty, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and
producer, plays guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, flute and
drums. He taught himself to play left-handed on a friends axe
when he was just a kid growing up inMemphis, Tennessee.
This was the best thing that could have happened to musician
Jared Booty. As a small boy he lived around the corner
from Sun Records where Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny
Cash, Carl Perkins, and Roscoe Gordon made their mark. His
grandparents owned a soul food cafe on world famous Beale
Street where Jared remembers hearing the music of Howlin’
Wolf and B.B. King booming from the cafe jukebox and late in
the evening at home, rockin’ with the soulful sounds of disc jockey
Dewey Phillips as he conducted his “rockin’ soul” radio
show Red Hot & Blue.
From the early strains of Furry Lewis to
the later grooves of Bobby ”Blue” Bland, music seemed to be at
every turn in his young life.
Later Jared’s experience as a sideman with the likes of
rhythm and blues legend Rufus Thomas, soul man Al Green,
rockers Dacy’s Midnight Runners, Bob Dylan, Terrence Trent
Darby, The Fugees and others just added fuel to the fire. Now
that his CD, “Blue and Red Hot” is soon to be released it’s clear
that the musical scope of Jared Booty will reach far and wide.
The special will feature an in-depth discussion with Jared and All Memphis Music co-founder, David Fleischman.
The Specialty Show will air this Friday night October 22th at 10:00 pm (CST Memphis Time) and will repeat on Saturday morning October 23rd at 10:00 am (CST Memphis Time) Tell a friend!

Cyndi Lauper ~ All Memphis Music ~ "Twitter Cast" ~ Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau ~ Memphis Blues"
Cyndi Lauper-'Memphis Blues' new CD
"Twitter Cast"—ALLMEMPHISMUSIC.com
Tonight, Thursday at 7PM EST, All Memphis Music is excited to present a special “Twitter Cast” featuring Cyndi Lauper as she Tweets comments about her Top Ten favorite Memphis songs while they play live, on All Memphis Music. Her new album, Memphis Blues, recorded in the River City’s own Electrophonic Studios, pays tribute to the blues and its rich history. She’s chosen a powerful ensemble cast to assist her, including Charlie Musselwhite, BB King, Ann Peebles, Allen Toussaint and Johnny Lang. The exclusive broadcast is one of many innovations AllMemphisMusic has popularized since its 2006 arrival.
Cyndi Lauper, no stranger to even the most casual pop music fan, burst on the scene with her stunning Portrait Records 1984 debut, She’s So Unusual, which featured “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” The album quickly sold over four and a half million records and launched a career which continues to showcase Cyndi’s versatility and eclectic tastes.
The Cyndi Lauper/AllMemphisMusic “Twitter-cast” figures to be an insightful discourse through the eyes and ears of a true pop icon about the music that’s meant so much to Memphis’ musical heritage as well as the culture of pop music in the 20th and 21st centuries. Since the release of Memphis Blues, Cyndi has again become one of the most sought after personalities in music. She’s appeared on “American Idol,” played a psychic on the wildly popular Fox TV series, “Bones,” and made an impressive showing on “Celebrity Apprentice.” She’s currently on a national tour that will take her to major markets around the U.S.

This weekend All Memphis Music is pleased to present a specialty show highlighting Whole Lotta Blues, the new album by Evidence Music recording artist, Troy Turner. Troy’s re-emergence on the scene has been widely hailed as long overdue. The special will feature an in-depth discussion with Troy’s producer, Jon Tiven, who provides revealing behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the making of this record and the world-class cast of characters who appear on it. Queen’s Brian May, Bad Company’s Simon Kirke, Jeff Beck Group alumnus, Max Middleton, blues legend Hubert Sumlin, soul standout Howard Tate and Young Rascals’ founder, Felix Cavaliere are just some of the all-stars who make an appearance on Whole Lotta Blues.

Memphis Music ~ Poplar Tunes ~ Rock N Soul Museum ~ Lansky Bros. ~ All Memphis Music ~ MCVB ~
Poplar Tunes Sign
Hal Lansky Saves Legendary Musical Neon!
Poplar Tunes Sign Joins Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum
Exhibition Tomorrow Morning
Memphis, TN … Tomorrow morning, Wednesday, April 7 at 9:00 a.m., representatives from H.A. Balton Sign Company will arrive at the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum with the legendary 12’ Poplar Tunes Record Store neon sign in tow, ready to install it on display inside the museum’s “Sun Records & Youth Culture” gallery. This legendary Memphis landmark, recognizable by just about everybody who calls Memphis home, will be loaded into the museum through the museum’s back doors, just behind the infamous fire station at Third and Linden.
The Poplar Tunes sign (or “Pop Tunes” as it was more commonly referenced) was salvaged from certain disappearance by Memphis businessman and music supporter, Hal Lansky, who offered it on loan to the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum to protect and preserve this critical aspect of Memphis music history. The Lansky’s family clothier business, originally located on Beale Street, dressed many of Memphis’ musical legends, including Elvis Presley. The Lansky’s have always been huge supporters of Memphis music, and have also preserved other artifacts from Memphis’ music history, several of which are already on loan to Rock ‘n’ Soul. H.A. Balton Sign
Company restored the sign, including the legendary “Poplar Tunes” and musical note neon across the top of the sign. Within the museum, changing letters across the bottom of the sign will commemorate significant dates in Memphis music history. The Smithsonian Institution was pleased with the sign’s inclusion within the Smithsonian-developed exhibition, and its significance in telling the Memphis music story.
Poplar Tunes, originally located at 308 Poplar, was within walking distance of Lauderdale Court apartments where Elvis lived while working at Crowne Electric. Elvis and many other Memphis musicians frequented Pop Tunes to listen to the latest 45-record releases of this new evolving music revolution which became known as Rock ‘n’ Roll. Pop Tunes also served as the launching pad of legendary Memphis record label, Hi Records, started in 1957 by Pop Tunes’ owner Joe Cuoghi and several partners. Pop Tunes also served as the largest product provider and servicer for the jukebox industry throughout the southeast U.S., making their music distribution business sort of the early forerunner to iTunes… providing teenagers with push-button selections of the latest musical hits, right at their finger tips.
“Every single Memphian who has ever been downtown remembers this iconic sign,” says John Doyle, Rock ‘n’ Soul Executive Director. “Behind Graceland and Sun Studios, Poplar Tunes former 308 Poplar address is one of the most musically significant addresses in our city. World-changing music exploded from that building; it once even promoted its own ‘Hot Releases’ record charts and you can believe the world paid attention.”
“The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum is so grateful to Hal and to the entire Lansky family for all they have done for Memphis music. We are grateful to him for saving this great structure, and for bringing it to the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum.”
The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Originally developed in association with the Smithsonian Institution, it offers tourists and citizens the only complete exhibition of Memphis music history. It is located on the campus of FedExForum at music Highway 61 (“The Blues Highway” or, to Memphians, Third Street) and legendary Beale Street. The museum is open 7 daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. For additional information, contact John Doyle, Executive Director, at (901) 205-2530 or (901) 485-6995 (cell) or at john@memphisrocknsoul.org.

South Memphis String Band ~ All Memphis Music.com ~ Memphis International Records ~

LUTHER DICKINSON, ALVIN YOUNGBLOOD HART & JIMBO MATHUS JOIN FORCES:
SOUTH MEMPHIS STRING BAND'S HOME SWEET HOME
As the free world teeters once again on the terrifying brink of depression, return with us now to those bygone days of yesteryear and lose your troubles in the timeless songs of the South Memphis String Band. Three young contemporary blues artists, each in his own right, a rising star. Three modern Mississippi musicians on a knight’s quest to retrieve, preserve, and carry into the future America’s most unique and meaningful musical statement.
Jim Dickinson (1941 – 2009)
When Luther Dickinson, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus got together to make music, it certainly wasn’t out of commercial consideration. This troika of roots-imbued musical pros coalesced through a shared vision and consuming passion for the music of their forebears, most notably the Mississippi Sheiks, Memphis Jug Band, Gus Cannon’s Jug Stompers and other practitioners of pre-blues era roots sounds
Home Sweet Home, their first album, out on Memphis International, showcases their passion for the old timey tradition that is underscored by the group’s name: South Memphis String Band.
South Memphis, of course, is that rough and tumble area of the Bluff City extending from downtown to the Mississippi border, and beyond. It’s where Stax Records as well as, literally, hundreds of churches thrived. The sacred and profane, holy rolling and dice rolling, were cheek by jowl in old South Memphis and its modern day namesake reflects that ecumenicism quite brilliantly. For Luther, Alvin and Jimbo, South Memphis is more of a musical state of mind than a specific geographical location.
They’ve been called a “regional roots music supergroup” but the alliance of Dickinson (from the North Mississippi Allstars and, of late, the Black Crowes), Hart (the Grammy winner who is as equally adept at thrash rock as he is at country blues) and Mathus (of the Squirrel Nut Zippers) is more like three good friends just putting it down in a very traditional way. Mathus explained, “Luther, Youngblood Hart and myself have been musical co-conspirators for over a decade. It is only fitting that we should come together with acoustic instruments and perform Mississippi music.”
