STAX Founder Jim Stewart Grants a Rare Interview to AllMemphisMusic.com

Since the closure of STAX Records in 1975, co-founder Jim Stewart has given very few interviews, until now. All Memphis Music is proud to announce a two hour interview with the man who helped shape Music History by melding both black and white musicians in a city that was racially divided in the early 60's. STAX Records was the first label to successfully accomplish this in recorded music history.

STAX Records was a studio that was built by Jim Stewart and his sister, Estelle Axton. In this 'Conversation with Jim Stewart', he starts from the very beginnings of the label, right up until the end. It's a story about how Booker T. & The MG's were formed. He tells about how the great Otis Redding

was a roadie for a band that was recording at STAX and he how he begged STAX for just 30 minutes to sing his songs. Jim also talks about how he and Otis became close friends and what the impact was when Otis's plane crashed in 1967, killing him and members of his back up band The Bar-kays.

Jim also goes into detail about many STAX musicians including Sam & Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas, William Bell, The Mar-Keys, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn,Albert King, Isaac Hayes, and so many more. The interview was conducted by Jon Scott and David Fleischman, co-founders of
All Memphis Music.
