Susan Marshall ~ All Memphis Music ~ Memphis Sound ~ Internet Radio

This week, the All Memphis Music Specialty Show features the 3rd solo release from Memphis favorite, Susan Marshall.

Following her debut CD "SUSAN MARSHALL IS HONEYMOUTH" and her follow up, "FIREFLY", Susan is releasing her latest CD ....."LITTLE RED".

Susan is one of the most sought after vocalists in Memphis and does background vocals on countless recording sessions. She's equally sought after as a backing vocalist for other artists's live shows. Susan is not just limited to Memphis, as she performs around the world.

The Memphis Flyer said, "Susan Marshall is arguably the contemporary Memphis scene's post powerful and versatile pure singer, and, with this third solo offering, she delivers her strongest album yet. 'Little Red' is a pretty even mix of covers (four) and originals (five), all united by Marshall's consistently electric vocals, which grab you whether going for calm or thunder and all points in between."

Simply put.......Susan Marshall can................SING! This week you can hear Susan's new CD in it's entirety on
All Memphis Music.com
Along with the music, we will have interview segments with Susan. All Memphis Music LOVES SUSAN MARSHALL, and we know you will too.

Jesse Winchester ~ New Music ~ All Memphis Music ~ Internet Radio

Well the weekend is coming up and time for the
All Memphis Music Specialty Show. This week a brand new CD (the first studio CD in ten years) from former Memphian, Jesse Winchester.

Jesse Winchester was born in Shreveport, LA but grew up in North Mississippi and Memphis. Bob Dylan called Jesse among his favorites of his generation!

After you hear this CD, you'll know why.

His 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Composers, Artists, and Publishers is one gauge of the music world's esteem.

In 1967, Jesse left the US to live in Canada and avoid the draft and the Viet Nam War. Jesse started recording in Canada and has released albums throughout the years......but was unable to tour in the US due to his status.

In 1977, President Carter extended amnesty to those that fled the draft and Jesse could finally tour in his homeland.

Fast forward to 2009 and Jesse is releasing his next body of work...........a new CD titled..LOVE FILLING STATION.
All Memphis Music thinks you're gonna love what ya hear! WELCOME BACK JESSE!!!!

The All Memphis Music Specialty Show will air this Friday night, April 17th at 10:00 PM (CST Memphis Time) and rebroadcast on Saturday morning April 18th at 10:00 AM (CST Memphis Time)

All Memphis Music ~ The Climates ~ SUN Records ~ Internet Radio

Ok, it's once again time to tell you about our Specialty Show this weekend!

The Climates, a legendary vocal ensemble, signed with Sun Records, in 1966 and had several hits in the 60’s such as “Breakin’ Up Again,” “No You For Me,” “All My Weakness,” “Tell Him Tonight,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” The latter was also recorded by the legendary Elvis Presley and made it to the top of the charts. The Climates were the first black artists to become number one on a white radio station in the South (WHBQ-3 months and WMPS-1 month). In 1967, The Climates charted number two in France, Italy, and England, second only to the Beatles, making the front page of Billboard Magazine that year.

On June 20, 1992, Sam Phillips, President of Sun Records, declared the group legendary artists. They each received Proclamations from the state and the city of Memphis, and that day was declared “Climates Day.” Sam once said, “These guys of the Memphis Sound, James Rosser, Raymond Edwards, David Glenn, and Robert Chisem, were truly trendsetters with their flashy outfits and their well-polished performances that were so disciplined.”

The group has had the pleasure of being backed by Memphis greats such as Isaac Hayes, Booker T. and the MG’s, The Markeys, Tennie Hodges and the Hi Rhythm Band, and some of the former Barkays. Being successful at an early age, The Climates were helpful to others by letting them be their opening act. Some of the artists that opened for them are J. Blackfoot of the Soul Children, The New Comers, and Ann Peebles.

Even now, The Climates are featured on the new legendary album called,
“Into the 60's The Completer Sun Singles, “From the Vault Vol. 5 CD.” This album and CD features various artists with songs from their collection.

Recently, Rodger Friedman of Fox News New York reviewed new Climates CD as being one of the top 5 CD’s for the year. The Climates are stronger than ever. The group is under the leadership of Robert “Chilli” Chisem, the only original member in the ensemble. The new members of The Climates are Melvino Smith (1st & 2nd Tenor), Ricky Adkinsson (1st, 2nd Tenor/Lead), Ms. Angela (Contralto), and Warren Miller (2nd Tenor/Bass). This group is very versatile. Each member is a lead vocalist. In 206, their song “Rainin’ In Memphis” was featured on WDIA’s CD (America’s First Black Radio Station), “The History, The Music, The Legend.” Ace Records in England also recently released a new compilation CD entitled, “More Perfect Harmony”, featuring one of the Climates’ songs, “No You For Me” from the Sun-Days. The Climates have recently finished a new CD entitled, “Rainin’ In Memphis”, which will released in January 2008, and Memphis’ own, Carl “Blue” Wise produced it. It has the sound of yesterday, but today’s real music. With all their history and background, you know it is going to be a hit! If you are looking for a legendary sound that started it all, this group is the one—
The C-L-I-M-A-T-E-S!

The All Memphis Music Specialty Show will air this Friday night, February 27th at 10:00 PM (CST Memphis Time) and rebroadcast on Saturday morning February 28th at 10:00 AM (CST Memphis Time).

Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ Live in Memphis ~ Ardent Studios ~ All Memphis Music ~ FM 100 ~ Memphis ~ Radio

The live recording you will hear of Lynyrd Skynyrd this week on the All Memphis Music Specialty Show (Friday November 14th & Saturday November 15th) will come from a live broadcast on FM 100 from 1973 at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. THIS IS THE FIRST KNOWN LIVE RECORDING OF THE BAND!!

I must admit that I was a part of putting this broadcast together with National MCA Records Promotion Manager, Dick Williams. I am especially proud that I was in Atlanta "working for MCA " when Lynyrd Skynyrd hit it big. I first saw the band at a showcase for MCA employees, writers, and radio people. It was a private event. No public. Three bands played that afternoon and night and when the final band started, everybody in the club stopped in their tracks. Three guitar players, 2 drummers, background singers, keyboards, and Ronnie Van Zant. It was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Who? LYNYRD SKYNYRD. All of a sudden you knew why this band would become an American icon.

The band BLEW everyone there away. I remember very well that when "Freebird" broke into it's crescendo, there were people standing on tables. "Freebird" ended some seven minutes later, the band left the stage and EVERYBODY in that 500 seat club were comatose. A victim of one of rock's greatest bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Throughout our broadcast I will give you some insights about the band, the live performance , touring with the band and what it was like to present Lynyrd Skynyrd with a Gold Record.

Hope you like the show..Jon Scott (formerly FM 100 1967-1974)

The All Memphis Music Specialty Show airs Friday night November 14th at 10:00 PM (CST MEMPHIS TIME) and is re-broadcast for the rest of our global listeners on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM (CST MEMPHIS TIME)
